As pets age, they become more vulnerable to various health conditions, aging roughly seven times faster than humans. A wellness screening acts as a comprehensive health check, similar to a medical MOT for your dog or cat, aimed at detecting potential health issues early. This proactive approach can offer peace of mind, knowing your pet’s wellbeing is being closely monitored.
During a wellness screening, your pet will undergo a thorough examination conducted by one of our trained veterinary nurses, who will also provide tailored lifestyle advice based on your pet’s needs. Regular wellness screenings are just as important as vaccinations, as early detection of health changes often means treatment can begin right away, helping your pet enjoy a longer, healthier, and happier life.
Wellness screenings are particularly recommended for healthy adult cats and dogs*, serving as an essential tool for early disease detection. To be eligible for a wellness screening, your pet should have seen a vet within the last 12 months. If your pet is displaying any unusual symptoms or behavior, a vet check-up is necessary before proceeding with the wellness screening.
The screening involves a physical exam, a complete clinical history review, urine testing, blood pressure measurement, and blood tests to evaluate common organ functions, including the kidneys, liver, thyroid (for cats), and for conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure.

We recommend an annual wellness screening for adult pets. To prepare for the appointment, pets should be fasted for 12 hours before their screening (water is allowed), and a fresh urine sample should be brought in a clean, dry container. If you need guidance on how to collect a urine sample, our practice team is available to assist you. Additionally, whoever brings your pet to the appointment should be familiar with the pet’s health, habits, and routines.
Results from the wellness screening will be available within 10 days. If everything is normal, you will receive a notification via text or email. However, if there are any abnormal findings, the practice team will contact you to discuss the next steps, which may include dietary changes, medication, or further investigation.
