TAYLOR VETS
To safeguard both animal and human health, we are now implementing Brucellosis testing for all imported pets. With increasing numbers of animals entering the UK from abroad, we have seen a rise in infectious diseases not commonly encountered here. This decision follows guidance from the government and veterinary specialists, underscoring the importance of monitoring for this condition in imported pets.
Brucellosis is a bacterial infection that can be transmitted from animals to humans.
Although Brucella cases remain low, the recommendation after a positive result is euthanasia due to the significant health risks it poses to humans, other pets, and to prevent your dog’s suffering as the disease progresses. We understand this may cause anxiety around testing, but it is crucial to protect public health. Alternatively, stringent isolation measures are an option; further information on this is available via the PDSA.
The Brucella test costs £177, which includes taking a blood sample and sending it to a laboratory for testing.
To schedule a Brucella test, please contact our reception team at 01280 733800, or book online. If you have further questions, don’t hesitate to reach out. We understand that this process may feel daunting and we are here to support you and your pet’s health every step of the way.
