Surgery

Primary Care Service

With our advanced surgical equipment, we offer a wide range of procedures to ensure your pet’s health and wellbeing. These include essential surgeries like spaying and neutering, foreign body removal, mass removal, and cystotomy for bladder stone removal. We also perform more complex surgeries such as abdominal exploratory procedures, splenectomy, and gastropexy, which can be done either as an emergency or as a preventive measure.

Our experienced veterinary team is dedicated to providing the highest level of care, ensuring your pet’s safety and comfort throughout their procedure.

Orthopaedic Procedures

John has particular interest and experience in orthopaedic surgery, and especially surgery of the knee. As well as the usual range of soft tissue and orthopaedic procedures we can also offer surgery to treat cranial cruciate ligament disease through:

  • TPLO (tibial plateau levelling osteotomy)
  • CCWO (cranial closing wedge osteotomy)
  • TTA (tibial tuberosity advancement)

We also pride ourselves on our holistic approach to arthritis. We can advise on nutrition and environmental management to reduce the need for medication, and offer joint injections and stem cell therapy

Our nurses can advise on rehabilitation. Lauren Stringer RVN holds a degree in animal physiotherapy and can help with post operative recovery, long term musculoskeletal problems and with maintaining good joint health in performance dogs.

What to Expect for Your Pet's Surgery

Before Surgery

Pets must be fasted 8-12 hours before their procedure, if possible. We need to conduct a full examination of your pet, including blood work, to reevaluate their condition and check for underlying problems.

During Surgery

Before surgery, your pet will receive pain relief and antibiotics, and an IV catheter will be placed to administer fluids and maintain proper hydration and blood pressure. The IV also allows us to quickly and safely deliver any additional medications your pet may need during the procedure.

A licensed veterinary technician will continuously monitor your pet’s vital signs throughout the surgery and will stay by their side as they wake up in the recovery area. To ensure comfort and warmth, all recovering pets are provided with cozy blankets as they regain consciousness.

After Surgery

Once your pet has fully recovered from anesthesia, a team member will reach out to schedule a discharge time. We’ll provide detailed post-operative care instructions for you to follow at home and address any questions you may have about your pet’s surgery and recovery process. If any concerns or questions arise in the days following the procedure, don’t hesitate to contact us—we’re here to help.
